Established in 2009, SaladStop! has since expanded from a single outlet at Marina Square to outlets in Singapore, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Spain, Korea, and Vietnam. Committed to “Eat Wide Awake”, SaladStop! seamlessly fuses two contrasting ideas together: salad and fast food. Beyond that, they are committed to ensuring a. more conscious way of eating and increasingly prioritize the health of the planet.

When customers step into the restaurant, they are greeted by rows and rows of natural, fresh ingredients, and they select the ingredients that appeal to them the most. On the SaladStop! pre-order app, each ingredient is labeled with its carbon footprint, allowing customers to craft a meal that would minimize their environmental impact.

Should they take away their meal, they can borrow a bag from the SaladStop! ‘Borrow Tree’ or pay 10 cents for an FSC-certified paper bag and have the proceeds go to WWF. A wide array of reusable merchandise is up for sale as well (e.g. bowls, cups, cutlery).  Alternatively, they could use a reusable container from barePack or Muuse, and return it to any other participating eateries. By participating in their Bring-Your-Own program, customers can also get a free topping (with containers) or discount (with cups).

SaladStop! wants to help customers understand the impact of food. In addition, to make nutritional information available, they want to make it possible for customers to go climate positive on their meal. This means going further than carbon offsetting. By dining at SaladStop!, you can contribute towards a mangrove reforestation program in Indonesia, and remove up to 20 times more carbon from the atmosphere than required to make your meal. All in all, SaladStop! makes it easy for customers to be more aware of sustainability and to be environmentally friendly and healthy.

Behind the scenes, there is a slew of other sustainability initiatives. For example, from 20-19-2020 they were composting their food waste to create fertilizer, thus enriching plants with nutrients, moisture, and pH balance. Furthermore, this helps reduce the amount of waste that eventually ends up in Singapore’s landfills. SaladStop! also sources ingredients, such as kale, from local suppliers to reduce their carbon footprint. Beyond that, they offer cage-free eggs and encourage vegan selections; customers who opt for all-vegan items are offered an additional, complementary, standard topping. SaladStop! is one of the handful of restaurants in Singapore that publishes an annual sustainability report detailing their ambitions and list of accomplishments. More information can be found on their website

In sum, SaladStop! is on a mission to empower its customers to eat in a more conscious way and positively impact the environment. Should you decide to join in on the movement, head down to one of their outlets to make your own bowl or wrap, and don’t forget to bring your own container if you are doing takeaway for an extra topping!
